Why does this role exist?
This role exists to make Statistics Without Borders an exceptional place for volunteers to contribute their time and energy at each stage of the volunteer journey. As part of this work, this role is responsible for building and managing a volunteer experience department at SWB, with a focus on maximizing volunteer satisfaction. This role also sits on the SWB Executive Committee and will contribute meaningfully to strategic SWB work that extends beyond volunteer experience.
What will I do? In the coming months, you'll:
- Map the volunteer journey, working cross-functionally to build systems that allow us to identify areas for improvement.
- Build and maintain a volunteer recognition program that includes awards and public recognition of volunteer work.
- Build playbooks to systematically improve our recruitment processes, including sourcing, vetting, onboarding, and retaining volunteers in roles.
- Overhaul and maintain the process for onboarding to Statistics Without Borders as a general volunteer.
What experience are you looking for? Ideally, you'll have:
- Previous experience leading volunteer teams and working with remote teams across time zones.
- Previous experience building functions from 0 to 1, with a focus on systems and sustainable growth.
- Building and executing new strategies, including working cross-functionally and managing change across teams and various audiences.
- Comfort experimenting with new processes.
What is the expected time commitment?
This role will likely take 8-10 hours per week. Directors serve an indefinite term, as established in the SWB Charter. Candidates should plan to serve for at least 1 year; ideal candidates plan to serve for 2 years.
This position is fully remote and can be based in any time zone.
