Join our volunteer team as a Library Resource Assistant! We are seeking volunteers to serve as ambassadors to our residential houses to ascertain the residents' current book preferences and to make these matierials available to them using the resources of our library.
The Silver Hill patient library boasts a broad selection of self-help, fiction and nonfiction books, magazines and newspapers for our patients and their families. Your job will be to help bring these resources to the residents in our houses and also help ensure that materials are returned before patients discharge.
We prefer volunteers who could be available during the week to interact with patients during their free time (Mon-Fri 10:00-11:30 or late afternoon).
Volunteers will receive a hospital orientation (offered on the first Monday of the month 10:00 a.m. to 5:00) and also access to our on-site medical education seminars.
This is a great opportunity for a college or graduate student, recent college or graduate school graduate , or individuals wishing to enter the healthcare and mental health field in the areas of nursing, social work, medicine or clinical psychology.

Description
Silver Hill Hospital is a not-for-profit, nationally recognized, independent psychiatric hospital offering diagnosis and treatment for the full range of psychiatric illnesses and substance use disorders.
Because Silver Hill is a hospital that provides both inpatient and residential treatment, patients have the advantage of our unusually broad and comprehensive range of programs. Patients who are acutely ill and who require intensive psychiatric and nursing supervision are treated in one of our adult or adolescent inpatient units. Treatments there tend to be medically oriented and the stay is typically short.
Patients who are ready for more psychological and behavioral interventions can be treated in our residential Transitional Living Programs, where there is more openness and the treatment course is longer.
All volunteers are requested to grant permission for a background check and are required to participate in an initial orientation and training process (group or one-on-one with volunteer manager)
