Recruiting Organization: Washtenaw Literacy
Seeking volunteer tutors who are:
- 18 years or older.
- Willing to commit approximately 3 hrs a week (2 tutoring, 1 prep) for a minimum of 4-6 months.
- Able to attend in-person tutoring sessions in Washtenaw Literacy's set Ann Arbor and/or Ypsilanti locations.
Responsibilities:
- Planning tutoring sessions tailored to the needs of individual learners or small groups.
- Offering in-person 1-on-1 basic literacy (reading, writing, and math) tutoring or small group ESL (English as a Second Language) tutoring to help adult learners improve their skills and meet their goals.
- Identifying areas of difficulty for learners and developing strategies to support them.
- Assessing learners’ progress and providing regular feedback on their performance.
- Using a variety of tutoring materials and technique.
Qualifications:
- Strong English communication skills.
- Strong literacy skills and the ability to effectively teach others.
- A desire to promote equity in our community.
- A willingness to work with diverse people.
