STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program that specializes in an advanced, bar-none STEM-based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results.

Location: Remote

Time commitment - 6 hours/week

Description: We are seeking a proactive and highly organized Volunteer Coordinator for Community Engagement to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers who support our community outreach and engagement efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategies to attract and recruit volunteers for community engagement initiatives. Create recruitment materials, conduct outreach, and manage the onboarding process to ensure new volunteers are well-integrated into STEM Canada’s community programs.
  • Design and deliver training programs to equip volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective community engagement. Provide ongoing support and professional development to enhance volunteer participation and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the scheduling and assignment of volunteer roles related to community engagement activities. Monitor and evaluate volunteer performance, providing guidance and support to align with STEM Canada’s community engagement goals.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for volunteers, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback. Foster a positive, inclusive environment through regular communication, recognition, and encouragement of volunteer contributions.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating community-focused events, such as outreach programs, workshops, STEM fairs, and fundraising activities. Ensure events are well-executed and volunteers have the necessary resources and support.
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, including hours worked and tasks completed. Prepare and present reports on volunteer engagement and performance to STEM Canada’s leadership team.
  • Gather and analyze feedback from volunteers to assess the effectiveness of community engagement programs. Use insights to recommend and implement improvements to enhance the volunteer experience and program outcomes.
  • Work closely with other departments and teams within STEM Canada to ensure volunteer efforts are aligned with broader organizational goals. Collaborate with staff to identify community engagement needs and opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, or a related field, with a solid understanding of volunteer management and support.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, schedules, and projects efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, with a talent for building and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Genuine passion for community engagement and a commitment to STEM Canada’s mission of enhancing STEM education.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required. Familiarity with volunteer management software and tools is a plus.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse global audience and work within a multicultural environment.
