Recruiting Organization: Intermountain Health-St. Mary's Regional Hospital

The position is responsible for providing, companionship, transportation assistance, and life enrichment activities, that enable elderly program clients to live4 independently in their homes as long as possible.

Basic Requirements:

  • Must be 21 years of age and older to volunteer.
  • Completion of volunteer application and interview.
  • Successful completion of appropriate screening: criminal background and motor vehicle checks.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and proof of car insurance.
  • Completion of program orientation and overview of the Volunteer Handbook.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 20 pounds.
  • Maintain client and family confidentiality.
  • Possess the mental, motor, and sensory abilities to drive and function safely.
  • Abide by St. Mary's/Community Connections policies/procedures and code of conduct.
  • Complete and submit Client Activity Logs and Mileage Sheets monthly.
  • Enjoys interacting with the elderly.
  • Be dependable and responsible.
  • Possess good communication and listening skills.
  • Be empathetic and nonjudgmental.

Performance Responsibility:

  • Volunteers have a flexible schedule based on the needs of the client. Services can be provided weekly, biweekly, or monthly . On average volunteers provide 2-3 hours per week. Days and times of service are negotiated between client and volunteer.
  • Attire should be clean and appropriate for duties.
  • Provide requested assistance to clients defined by the Volunteer Service Agreement such as:

Transportation to medical appointments

Groceries and other shopping

Errands and outings

Assist with walking or recreation activities

In-home socialization

Bill paying, writing letters, reading mail etc.

Providing information on goods and services available in the community

  • Maintain on-going communication with clients letting them know when volunteer is not available.
  • Notify the program coordinator of any issues, absences, or concerns regarding client services.
  • Report suspected elder abuse to program coordinator.
