Shopping Spree Assistant Volunteers

Position Summary:

Shopping Spree Assistants help ensure wish children who have wished to have a shopping spree have an experience they'll never forget! These volunteers accompany the wish child on the first day of their shopping spree and may be the wish family's primary point of contact during their stay in Minnesota (if they are from another state). These volunteers are there to make sure the wish child and their family have everything they need during their wish experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Before the child’s arrival, network with up to three of the child’s favorite stores to solicit in-kind donations (goods or services), or plan other special treatment to make the child’s wish extra special.
  • Call the family prior to their arrival to introduce yourself.
  • Meet the family at their shopping spree location and accompany them to the wish child’s favorite stores.
  • Assist the wish family with any questions or concerns during their wish experience.

Volunteer Commitment:

  • Participate in at least two volunteer activities per year.

Availability:

  • The average shopping spree wish requires 3-5 hours over a span of about one month.
  • Flexible hours; from early morning to late evening.

Required Training:

  • Completion of online orientation.
  • Completion of one webinar training is required for this position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Love for children and comfort interacting with children ages 2 ½ to 18.
  • Cheerfulness and a willingness to help each unique wish family.
  • Comfort soliciting for in-kind donations and networking with a variety of stores.
  • Creativity and the ability to make each child’s wish extra special.
  • Excellent people skills and the ability to work with people from different backgrounds and children with various medical conditions.
  • Timeliness and dependability.
  • Ability to pass background check (18 years or older)
