Make A Difference, Become An Errand Volunteer!
Formed in 1955, Beach Cities Health District is a public agency that provides health care services to the communities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach.
Errand Volunteers help older and/or disabled clients live at home longer by offering them assistance in completing routine errands. Tasks can vary and may be grocery shopping, running to the pet store, or the post office to give a few examples. This opportunity has an added social component for clients when volunteers serve as escorts during errands.
Errand volunteers would drive clients on errands or run errands for them for a maximum of 1 1/2 hours each week. Applicants will be required to attend a BCHD orientation and training. Must be compassionate and commit to at least 1 year. Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
Qualifications Needed:
- Must be 18 or older
- Empathetic and understanding to the needs of older adults and adults with disabilities
- Physical ability to carry groceries and other household items inside for client
- Complete the training program
- Ability to attend quarterly volunteer support meeting
- Communicate any information regarding client with their Care Manager
- Maintain client confidentiality
- 1-year commitment with option to continue
