ORGANIZATION: CIRCLES RVA INC

Brief Organizational Description:
At Circles RVA, we bring people together to break the cycle of poverty through community, support, and meaningful relationships. We are a local chapter of a national nonprofit with a proven model for helping our program participants establish clear goals and providing the ongoing support they need to achieve them

Volunteer Position Description and Purpose:
We are recruiting here for 'intentional friends' to support our participants on their journeys. Our program particpants, Leaders, set goals for themselves in a 12 week training program before they are connected with their Allies, volunteers who meet with them weekly at our Tuesday evening community gatherings where we support each other and offer programming to help participants achieve their goals.

Volunteer Duties & Responsibilities:
- Participate in an 8 week training program that will help strengthen your ability to be a supportive Ally to our program participants.
- Make an 18-month commitment to your Leader- we believe this is the amount of time it takes to have a solid, life-changing impact.
- Meet with the Circles community on Tuesday nights from 6-8pm. Dinner and a children's program are included for both Leaders and Allies at NO COST. Sharing a meal truly creates a sense of community.
- Be a friend, cheerleader, supporter, coach, listener and advocate.

Qualifications, Skills, & Requirements:
We ask that our Ally candidates be mindful and caring people who are in a position to offer friendship and support to our participants who are trying to make their lives better. We don't have set criteria, such as a bachelor's degree or experience in social work, but we will do an interview process to make sure this program is a good fit.

Time Commitment:
We meet every Tuesday in a donated space by Monroe Park from 6-8pm, with our community dinner starting at 6pm and evening programming starting at 7pm. We do ask that our Leaders and Allies work together to discuss opportunties for additional communication and interaction. We also recognize you may need some Tuesday evenings off and certainly understand when that happens.

Other Information (if applicable):
If you're curious about our program, we always welcome potential candidates to visit with us for a meal on Tuesday evenings so that you can see our friendly and uplifting community in action before making any commitment.

About CIRCLES RVA INC

Location:

8 N LAUREL ST, RICHMOND, VA 23220, US

Mission Statement

Circles RVA empowers individuals and families to permanently move out of poverty and thrive. We create intentional relationships that expand support communities and engage the wider community to reduce or eliminate the systemic barriers that hinder people from rising out of poverty. Circles RVA's vision is for every Richmonder to have enough money, meaning, and friendship to thrive.

Description

Circles RVA is part of Circles USA, a nationally-known, proven, and innovative way of connecting people across socioeconomic lines to move people & families out of poverty. The Circles model focuses on "Circle Leaders," individuals who are ready, willing and able to move from surviving to thriving economically. Circle Leaders participate in 12 weeks of life-skills training which span an array of topics and focus on setting SMART goals. Circle Leaders emerge with specific goals for achieving economic stability. Circle Leaders are then matched with two volunteer Allies who empower the Leader in the roles of cheerleader and accountability partner.

Circles RVA provides the social network, financial tools, and emotional encouragement that activate economic growth for hard-working individuals living with poverty. Participants report increased income, improved credit scores, decreased debt, and added assets. Hear directly from our first-class of Circle Leader graduates on the Circle blog: https://circlesrva.org/leaders-voices/

Circles RVA is not merely managing life with limited resources. Instead, we are working to truly break the cycle of poverty for Richmond Families.
