ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

Custer Gallatin National Forest is seeking a couple to provide vital assistance at the Hebgen Lake Ranger District in West Yellowstone, MT. Volunteers would help with front desk coverage, bear safety education, and general recreation site maintenance. These duties are essential in ensuring the enjoyment, education, and inspiration for our forest visitors.

  • Front desk duties include: assisting with opening and closing procedures, answer inquiries and questions via phone and in-person, welcome visitors as they enter the Ranger Station, provide accurate directions to national forest features, and keep Forest Service maps and brochures stocked.
  • Bear safety education duties include: educating visitors, seasonals, and locals about food storage orders, recreating safely in bear country, and using bear spray.
  • General recreation site assistance and maintenance duties include: patrolling various areas of the forest to ensure user compliance with regulations, minor facility maintenance such as cleaning buildings and painting, updating signage on the forest, assisting with grounds care, and aiding staff with project-based work.

Start and end dates are flexible. The couple will be provided an RV spot at the Ranger Station in West Yellowstone, MT. We are looking for volunteers who are able to commit to a minimum of 30 hours a week.
