The volunteers at the Guest Services/Information Desk are the first impression of our hospital. Volunteers provide directions and escort guests when the directions may be confusing, and are a calming presence. Volunteers help answer questions such as room numbers for patients, locations for departments and physician offices, and the nearest restaurants and shopping. Volunteers answer incoming phone calls and forward them to the correct areas.

We keep a supply of wheelchairs behind the information desk for our guests and patients and the volunteers demonstrate how to safely use the wheelchairs.

Currently, we need volunteers Tuesday mornings from 7:45 am until noon, and Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 11:45 am - 4 pm. The St. John Auxiliary is a dynamic organization committed to making a difference in the lives of our patients, guests, and associates.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Ascension St. John Auxiliary is to serve our community with compassionate care and quality support for the patients, families and associates of St. John Medical Center, St. John Owasso, St. John Broken Arrow and St. John Sapulpa.

Description

For more than 65 years, the Ascension St. John Auxiliary has provided volunteer services and funded special projects for Ascension St. John. Today, volunteers are needed in several different areas within four of our main facilities: Ascension St. John Medical Center, Ascension St. John Owasso, Ascension St. John Broken Arrow and Ascension St. John Sapulpa.

The Auxiliary also has a model Junior Volunteer Program designed specifically for high school students, with goals to promote a lifelong commitment to community service and encourage medical career exploration.

Volunteer opportunities range from assisting professional staff in their patient care roles to manning guest services-related areas like our gift shops, information desks and flower delivery. Ascension St. John volunteers also greet and comfort families in emergency and surgical waiting areas and help with the patient admission and release processes.

Proceeds from the gift shops go toward special projects of the hospitals, such as facility improvements and expansions, as well as technology like digital mammography units and the da Vinci surgical robot that impacts lives in our community for years to come.
