The Big Piney Ranger District is seeking a Campground Host at Long Pool Recreation Area, which is situated in the heart of the Ozarks. The surrounding forest is a mix of hardwoods and pine with numerous streams and small waterfalls. Visitors can view rock bluffs, swim in the Big Piney River, hike wooded hillsides, and canoe down the Big Piney Wild & Scenic River. Nearby attractions include Lake Dardanelle State Park, Arkansas Tech University, and the city of Russellville, AR which provides numerous recreational and shopping opportunities. A large natural pool, steep rock bluffs, and captivating forests are just a few examples of the natural beauty surrounding this recreation area. The recent addition of another camping loop offers 20 camping sites with water & electrical hook-ups. Long Pool Recreation Area is located within the Piney Creeks Wildlife Management Area, which provides hunting opportunities for many types of game during open seasons. The Big Piney RD is also known for its beautiful, natural scenery, sandstone bluffs, flowing streams, small lakes and pristine landscapes. Recreation opportunities include, but are not limited to, canoeing, hiking, fishing, riding and more.
Volunteer Hosts will be expected to:
- Provide friendly service and recreation information to campers, hikers, bicyclers, and day-use visitors.
- Greet visitors at the camping loop, day-use area and facilities twice a day.
- perform some litter pick-up, and daily clean the restrooms/showers in all the picnic/day-use/campground areas.
- Work Schedule: Thursday - Monday, minimum 4 hrs. a day.
Hosts are provided with an RV space, including full 50-amp hookup with water/septic. From Dover take Arkansas 7 north for 6 miles, turn left (west) on Arkansas 164 and go 3 miles, turn right (northeast) on County Road 14 and go 3 miles, then turn left (northwest) on County Road 15 and go 2 miles.
