Golden Spike National Historical Park commemorates one of the most transformative events in America's history, the completion of the nation's first Transcontinental Railroad. Its location at Promontory Summit features the location where the last spike and a nation-wide celebration was held on May 10, 1869. At nearly 5000 feet elevation, Golden Spike is located within a summit valley of the Promontory Mountains which form a mountain peninsula that juts out into the Great Salt Lake. The arid landscape features mostly grassland covered mountains punctuated with a sagebrush and juniper habitat.
The park is currently looking for volunteers to share their time and passion for history, education, and customer service with visitors from around the world. The Onsite Visitor Services Volunteer will be an integral member of the Interpretation and Education team by joining us in offering a memorable and enjoyable visitor experience. In this position, the volunteer will assist in providing interpretive programs to the public and offering excellent and informative service to park visitors.
