ORGANIZATION: Nyamboyo Technical School

A math professor has completed an algebra textbook designed for our students at Nyamboyo Technical School. It is essential that our students, who are studying technical vocational subjects master algebra. Last year, students from a California university programmed this math text into Mathematica so we can publish it. However, there are errors that need to be fixed before we can assemble the book and use it. We need someone who knows the program and can fix the remaining errors. For someone who really knows the program (and has access to it) it will only take a few hours.

Who We Are

NTS a not-for-profit 3-year vocational school located in the Nyamboyo Village in southwestern Kenya. We provide professional, technical education to the economically disadvantaged teens and young adults of the community. Our students are ages 14-20 and all have family histories of poverty, lack of education and job opportunities, and chronic food insecurity. At NTS, they receive professional vocational training, 3 meals a day to combat hunger and malnutrition, English-language classes, computer training, and daily sports activities. Our students thrive professionally, physically, and psychologically, building careers that move themselves and their families out of poverty.

Mission Statement

Nyamboyo Technical School is transforming young lives, families and communities through vocational education and economic opportunity in Nyamboyo, Kenya.

Description

NTS a not-for-profit 3-year vocational school located in the Nyamboyo Village in southwestern Kenya. We provide professional, technical education to the economically disadvantaged teens and young adults of the community. Our students are ages 14-20 and all have family histories of poverty, lack of education and job opportunities, and chronic food insecurity. At NTS, they receive professional vocational training, 3 meals a day to combat hunger and malnutrition, English-language classes, computer training, and daily COVID-safe sports activities. They also participate in school-run businesses, learning how to become business owners and making money while in school. Our students thrive professionally, physically, and psychologically.

Ultimately, we are building a positive, prosperous future for our youth, as employees, small business owners, and serial entrepreneurs!

NTS is led by Executive Director, Jones Obiria, a native of Nyamboro, who founded the school because he felt an obligation to lead after he, himself was able to escape poverty through the gift of education. Here in the U.S., a small, dedicated team of two are working to help raise awareness and funds for NTS. In Jones’ words "People save their own lives. Our job is to provide the opportunity. I hope you will join our journey."
