Position Overview: As a Hospice Volunteer at American Medical Hospice & Palliative Care, you will play a vital role in providing compassionate support to patients and their families during a critical time in their lives. Our volunteers are an integral part of our care team, offering companionship, emotional support, and practical assistance to enhance the quality of life for those we serve.

Key Responsibilities:

• Companionship: Spend quality time with patients, engaging in conversations, reading, or simply being a comforting presence.
• Emotional Support: Offer a listening ear and empathetic support to patients and their families, helping them navigate the emotional challenges of end-of-life care.
• Practical Assistance: Assist with light household tasks, errands, or other activities that help ease the burden on patients and their families.
• Respite Care: Provide short-term relief for primary caregivers, allowing them to take a break and recharge.
• Bereavement Support: Offer support to families after the loss of a loved one, helping them through the grieving process.

Qualifications:

• Compassionate and empathetic nature
• Excellent communication and listening skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and respect patient privacy
• Reliable and committed to regular volunteer hours
• Previous experience in a healthcare or caregiving setting is a plus, but not required

Training and Support: All volunteers will receive comprehensive training to prepare them for their role, including an orientation to hospice care, communication skills, and understanding the needs of patients and families. Ongoing support and supervision will be provided to ensure volunteers feel confident and valued in their role.
