The Tally Lake Ranger District on the Flathead National Forest operates two campgrounds and one boat launch & day use area on Ashley Lake near Kalispell, Montana. In addition to these three developed sites, there are several small access points to the lake where the public picnics and accesses the water. Camping is only permitted in the two campgrounds.
The host has a designated site at Ashley Lake North Campground with electric and sewer hookups. This campground has 6 additional sites and a vault toilet. Water is available at a nearby fire station, and the Forest Service will provide water containers for filing. Ashley Lake South Campground is less developed with only 3 sites and a vault toilet. The stay limit at both campgrounds is 5 nights. Ashley Lake Boat Launch and Day Use Site is just east of the North Campground. It features a boat launch, 4 picnic sites, a "beach", and a vault toilet. The Boat Launch and Day Use Site is anticipated to be under construction during the summer of 2025 in order to add more parking, a trail, and an additional vault toilet. The site will remain open during construction.
The host is expected to provide information and assistance to campers at both campgrounds. They will fill out daily logs of user information to aid in keeping track of stay limits. The host will clean and stock toilet paper at the North Campground daily. Visits to the Boat Launch/Day Use, South Campground, and other day use sites around the lake are expected 3 times per week. During these visits the host will clean and stock the toilets, keep logs of user information, and perform any maintenance needed.
Maintenance may include, but is not limited to, picking up trash, emptying fire rings and grills, hanging signage, sanding/painting picnic tables.
Per Diem, Mileage, and Reimbursement: The host will receive the field rate per diem of $20.00/day for 5 days per week through the duration of the operating season. For official travel using personal vehicle to the South Campground and various day use sites, the host will receive $0.67/mile for a round trip distance of 28 miles 3 times per week. Mileage will be documented through odometer readings in the daily log. Hosts may be reimbursed for travel to town once per week for groceries and supplies. The rate for these trips will be $0.14/mile for a 40 mile round trip. Reimbursement for trips to town may occur up to 17 times per operating season. The host will be reimbursed for propane refills for their camper only. Propane is available at a nearby gas station. Electric and sewer hookup are available free of charge. Reimbursements will occur 3-4 times per operating season.
