One Community is a nonprofit all-volunteer sustainability think tank. Our volunteer team fluctuates between 150-200 team members and has included over 1400 volunteers representing more than 60 different countries. We're seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to design the climate control systems for our greenhouse that will be integrated into our sustainable and open source food production structures. Learn more about these structures here: https://onecommunityglobal.org/aquapinis-and-walipinis/
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- BSME, BSCE, or equivalent (or near completion)
- HVAC/ Heating and cooling design experience
- Access to AutoCAD and any other necessary design software
- Excellent documentation and communication skills in a remote work setting
- Comfortable with, or willing to learn, Google Docs and Dropbox for collaboration
- Minimum of 10 weekly volunteer hours (work from home)
- Minimum 3-month commitment
Desired:
- Experience workign with structures designed for food production
- Experience in sustainability-related design
THE TASK
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design the climate control systems for our sustainable greenhouse, including HVAC, ventilation, and the climate battery system for temperature regulation. This climate battery system will be integrated into our aquapini and walipini sustainable greenhouse structures: https://onecommunityglobal.org/aquapinis-and-walipinis/
A climate battery is a new type of heating/cooling system that circulates air through underground tubes, where the surrounding earth is used to store and regulate the humidity and temperature of the air. In this role, you will be integrating mechanical systems with the climate battery, ensuring efficient heat transfer and retention in the greenhouse.
