We cannot change the outcome, but we can affect the journey!

Do you have a compassionate heart and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others during a time of great emotional need? End-of-life care calls for a special kind of volunteer with a heart for bringing peace and comfort to others. Our non-profit hospice is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our mission of providing comfort, support, and companionship to individuals and families facing end-of-life journeys.

Why Volunteer with Us?

Meaningful Impact: As a hospice volunteer, you have the incredible opportunity to bring comfort and joy to those in their final days. Your presence and support can make a world of difference in the lives of patients and their loved ones. Caregivers who are unable to get out of the house and take care of their needs will receive the respite they need during your visit, and patients receive your companionship and friendship that lift spirits and provide a distraction from their circumstances.

Flexible Commitment: We understand that everyone's schedule is different. That's why we offer flexible volunteer opportunities that fit into your busy life. Whether you can spare one hour a week or four, and whether it's once a week or twice, your time and dedication are immensely valuable.

No Medical Experience Needed: You don't need any medical background or training to become a hospice volunteer. All you need is a compassionate heart, a listening ear, and a willingness to be there for others in their time of need.

Comprehensive Training: We provide 16 hours of thorough training to all our volunteers, equipping you with the knowledge and skills necessary to support patients and families with empathy and understanding, with ongoing training throughout the year.

Serve in Your Community: Our volunteers have the privilege of serving patients in the comfort of their own homes or place of residence. You'll build meaningful connections within your community while making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Join Our Team Today!

Make a difference that lasts a lifetime by becoming a hospice volunteer with us. To learn more about this rewarding opportunity and how you can get involved, contact us today. Together, we can provide comfort, compassion, and dignity to individuals and families during their end-of-life journeys. Join us in spreading love and kindness where it matters most.

More about this opportunity: Our Hospice volunteers join the care team as members of Prisma Health volunteer services, commiting to at least 50 hours or 1 year of service. Joining us is no small thing, and we recognize the huge commitment that volunteers make when becoming a team member. By becoming a part of our team, you receive the benefits of having emotional and spiritual support for yourself as well.

Families will often request support for one or two weekly visits or on an as-needed basis. Because volunteers visit individuals in their homes, we begin with an interview, background check, employee health screen, extensive training, and several shadow visits before serving on your own. The onboarding process generally takes about 4-5 weeks to complete.

In addition to the patient visits, volunteers are expected to attend monthly meetings and may also be asked to provide administrative support in the office from time to time.

Some activities that volunteers provide for the families they serve include but are not limited to:

  • Providing musical support
  • Watching TV
  • Playing cards
  • Reading at bedside
  • Quiet presence at bedside
  • 11th hour Vigil
  • Respite time for caregivers
  • Light housework
  • Bird watching
  • Strolling and sitting outside for a breath of fresh air
  • Looking at photo albums and/or assisting with life reviews & legacy letters
  • Painting nails, brushing hair, hand massage, etc.
