ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - National Headquarters

This virtual (volunteer-from-home) position supports the National Headquarters (NHQ) International Service Department (ISD) Preparedness (PREP) team. The Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC) seeks a volunteer to create knowledge-sharing content and contribute to PrepareCenter’s Good Practice Briefs.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow the Communications calendar to research, perform interviews, write and edit Good Practice Briefs within deadlines.
  • Good Practice Briefs are approximately 1500 words and must be cleared by GDPC staff.
  • Write the stories that highlight the international preparedness work of Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies to share lessons learned and good practices that may encourage other National Societies to replicate preparedness projects.
  • Storytelling may require web-based interviews with disaster preparedness practitioners located across the globe.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours a week. Flexible with time zones. Time commitment depends on project-based needs.

Volunteer Frequency: Weekly

Length of Appointment: 12 months, renewable upon mutual agreement

Qualifications
Required:

  • Reliable access to resources needed to volunteer 100% virtually.
  • At least 3 years of experience demonstrating strong writing, editing, researching, interviewing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong portfolio of work
  • At least three years of professional experience in international development, disasters, emergencies, humanitarian assistance, or related field.
  • Authentic, creative, and engaging storyteller skills
  • Submission of resume
  • Willingness to comply with current public health and Red Cross policies
