Rocky Mountain National Park Summer Facilities Caretaker

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Rocky Mountain National Park is looking to recruit one volunteer to serve as our McGraw Ranch Caretaker for summer 2025!

The position will run approximately May 1st through September 30th , but exact start and end dates are flexible based on applicant availability. The position is based out of the Continental Divide Research Learning Center (CDRLC) at Rocky Mountain National Park. As a team member, the volunteer will act as caretaker at McGraw Ranch for at least 32 hours/week . Typical schedule is Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-4:30pm , but final schedule will be established with the supervisor upon hire. The volunteer will serve as a front-line representative of the National Park Service and will perform facility management of a historic complex that functions as a researcher housing facility. Example duties include assisting with housing check-ins, general groundskeeping (i.e. mowing, weeding, etc.), and small maintenance and repair tasks (i.e. fence repairs, painting and staining, etc.) based on ability. This is a good opportunity for someone looking to expand their skills in facility management and live in a national park for the summer. The volunteer will be supervised by the McGraw Ranch Manager.

Housing is provided at McGraw Ranch, located ~5 miles from downtown Estes Park. Part of this drive is a gravel road that can become muddy during summer storms. A park vehicle is available for work tasks, however a personal vehicle is required for personal travel, including trips to the grocery store and other in-town amenities. Cell service at McGraw is limited, with Verizon having service in some locations. Wi-Fi is available in the Main House for caretaker use and an NPS-provided Wi-Fi booster does provide Wi-Fi access in the Caretaker Cabin. The volunteer will be provided housing in a studio cabin with a bed and private bathroom. Access to a full kitchen and laundry is available in the Main House, under 100 yards away.

In your application, please describe why you believe you would be a good fit for this position. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

A resume, additional information, and/or an interview may be requested of applicants.
