Mission Statement
New Vision Organization is dedicated to promoting the well-being, civil rights, and rehabilitation of first-time offenders sentenced to life or life without parole. Through education, outreach, and advocacy, we work to raise public awareness and ensure access to medical care, legal resources, and fair representation. We stand against abuses, severe deprivations, and excessive sentencing by supporting peaceful demonstrations and policy reform efforts. Committed to justice, we champion prison and parole reform, advocating for the abolition of life and life without parole sentences to create a more equitable and rehabilitative justice system.
Description
Founded in 2004, New Vision Organization (NVO) initially advocated for incarcerated men, women, and youth nationwide. In 2014, its mission shifted to focus exclusively on first-time offenders in Massachusetts serving life or life without parole for any offense.
NVO volunteers provide critical support to incarcerated individuals facing civil rights violations, including denial of access to educational and vocational programs, as well as unjust placement in solitary confinement due to unfounded disciplinary reports. Many also seek advocacy for denied medical and psychological treatment.
Through nationwide collaboration with advocates, NVO shares and secures essential resources such as pro bono legal assistance, free books for prisoners, pen pal connections, and educational correspondence courses. A major concern remains the lack of media access to prisons, which silences incarcerated individuals. As their voice, NVO works tirelessly to expose abuses, deprivations, and rights violations to the public, advocating for justice and reform.
