We are seeking volunteers for the 86th Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineerig Fair (PRSEF) held at Carnegie Science Center!
The 2025 PRSEF Competition will be held on April 1, 2025 for Grades 6-8 and on April 2, 2025 for Grades 9-12.
PRSEF invites middle and high school students to take on the challenge of designing, implementing, and communicating an original experiment while competing for cash prizes and scholarships. PRSEF is open to all students in grades 6-12 from the 21 counties within Western Pennsylvania and Garrett County, Maryland. The Science Fair has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1940. It is also the third oldest science fair in the United States under the affiliation of Society for Science, which runs the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) and the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge middle school competition.
Volunteer shifts are available both days:
- 7-10:30am - Judge Registration (greet judges, check them in and collect their waiver form, give them a name badge and direct them where to go next)
- 7-9:15am - Student Registration (greet students and teachers, check them in, collect any missing paperwork, give them ID badges
- 7-9:15am - Student Wayfinder Guides (greet students at registration and take them to their assigned project tables)
- 7-9:15am - Set-Up Assistants/Inspector (help with light set up. Once students complete their set up, you'll use an Inspector Checklist to review student projects, then dismiss students to orientation)
- 10am-12:15pm - Student Guides/Floor Managers (assist with student flow, answer student questions)
- 10:30am-2pm - Judge Registration (greet judges, check them in and collect their waiver form, give them a name badge and direct them where to go next)
- 12-2pm - Lunch/Rangos Giant Cinema Supervision (guide students into Rangos Giant Cinema and to lunch - feel free to stay and watch the movie!)
- 2-3:30pm - Student Guides/Floor Managers (assist with student flow, answer student questionsm, distribute awards, ensure dismissal is completed in a safe manner)
Volunteers will receive a PRSEF t-shirt and $10 cafe voucher to use the day of the volunteer shift.

REQUIREMENTS
- This is a Done in a Day opportunity and there is no prior training or ongoing commitment needed.
- Must be at least 18
- April 1 and/or April 2. Shifts are 2-4 hours long between 7am-3:30pm
- Must sign a one-day volunteer waiver. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to shift start time.
