Do you know your way around building materials, hardware, power tools, or any type of construction? Do you like to be on your feet? Do you want to help keep good, usable building materials out of the landfill and available at low-cost to folks who need them? Join our team of warehouse volunteers!

Support daily operations at Community Forklift by helping us process donated building materials. Volunteer duties in the store include assisting our lighting department to test, repair, and price lighting fixtures and more (depending on your skill set and interests). Volunteer shifts are flexible within open hours. Volunteers must be comfortable being on their feet for long periods of time, working in a non-climate-controlled environment, and interacting with folks from diverse backgrounds.

About Community Forklift

Location:

4671 Tanglewood Drive, 5 min from NE DC, near Hyattsville Arts District, Edmonston, MD 20781, US

Mission Statement

Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center that lifts up our local communities in many ways! We make repairs and renovation more affordable for homeowners, nonprofits, small businesses, and everyone else in the DC metro region. Our environmental impact is twofold: not only do we reduce waste by saving these materials from landfills and promoting reuse, but in turn we reduce the mining and harvesting of dwindling natural resources as well. The Forklift has also added 45 "green collar" jobs to the local economy, provides free public education about sustainability and green living, and donates materials free-of-cost to neighbors in need and local community groups.

Description

Community Forklift is a nonprofit reuse center for home improvement supplies. We accept donations of surplus and salvaged building materials throughout the metro DC region and make these items available to the public at low cost.
