ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

Volunteer activities will consist of supporting the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument (SGMNM) district office in Glendora, CA. This work includes providing information to the public, distributing maps and other resources, and informing Forest Service staff when appropriate. Work beyond the attached job hazard analyses requires an updated volunteer agreement. Volunteers may be a passenger in a government owned vehicle. A key will be assigned to the volunteer.

Volunteer duties may include, but is not limited to:

· Opening and closing the office: This ensures a smooth start and end to the workday for our team.

· Answering phones and taking notes: They'll be the friendly voice, greeting callers and capturing essential messages.

· Meeting and assisting the public: The first point of contact for visitors, you'll provide a welcoming and informative experience.

· Directing inquiries to the appropriate staff: Knowing our team structure will be vital in connecting visitors with the right person for their needs.

· Supporting office tasks as needed: Helping with administrative duties can be a great way to benefit the whole team.

Important to note: This volunteer position will not involve any duties as a collection officer. Volunteers with unescorted access of a government facility will require a background investigation prior to fulfilling these duties. Volunteers will need to agree upon a consistent schedule they are able to support on-site activities.

This agreement does not include transportation to or from the volunteer duty station.

The volunteer will conduct and document a tailgate safety session prior to engaging in work to discuss the types of work involved with the project, hazards and precautions, fire danger levels /project activity levels (PAL), emergency evacuation/communications plan, and seek input on safety. Volunteers will review any physical limitations that would either be aggravated by or restrict participation in the work with the Volunteer Liaison. The volunteer is empowered to stop work at any time they perceive a potential hazard is developing.
