The Salmon-Challis National Forest is seeking an individual or couple to act as an integral part of a customer service team based at the Leadore Ranger Station in Leadore, Idaho. Individuals should have strong communication skills, love working with people, have terrific customer service skills, and are able to work primarily in an office setting. Volunteers should expect to work 2-3 days per week, at 4-6 hours per day. When applying to these positions please provide relevant previous experience and at least 2 professional or personal references . An RV pad with hookups will be provided, however volunteers must bring their own RV.
The Leadore Ranger District includes the spectacular Lemhi and Beaverhead Mountain ranges, the Lemhi River, and many high alpine lakes. It is a popular destination for recreation and visitors enjoy endless opportunities for hiking, biking, motorized recreation, camping, horseback riding, fishing, and more. In the fall, the area becomes a very popular destination for big game hunters.
Main Duties
- Assist with opening/closing procedures.
- Answer inquiries and questions via phone and in-person.
- Welcome visitors as they enter the Ranger Station, keeping a tally of how many visitors enter.
- Give accurate directions to trailheads, parking areas, historic sites, landmarks, and other National Forest features using available maps.
- Keep Forest Service maps and brochures, and other items stocked at various locations.
- Sell maps to Ranger Station visitors.
- Depending on the volunteer's abilities and interest, there may be opportunities to perform light duty grounds and facilities maintenance including watering or small carpentry projects.
