ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Spend the summer in Rockies and help empty trash and recycling bins while driving the park -- from the Alpine Visitor Center, to the campgrounds and trailheads, you get to see the beautiful scenery of Rocky Mountain National Park on every shift. Volunteers will begin their day at the Alpine Visitor Center, and work their way down the mountains on a pre-planned route, collecting either trash or recycling from their respective bins.
Rocky Mountain National Park receives millions of visitors every year. These visitors generate a lot of trash and recycling -- help your park out by helping manage these high levels of trash and recyclables. Volunteers will be supervised by the park's custodial team, who will assign you a weekly work schedule.
An RV/trailer site may be provided for volunteers serving at least 32 hours per week .
This position requires volunteers to lift trash bags up to 50 pounds, although most bags are lighter. Volunteers must be comfortable driving a larger vehicle on winding mountain roads for several hours per day. There are two NPS trucks that are used for the route. Volunteers will work in pairs, one driving each truck. The trash truck is a Ford F-350 with a small compacting unit mounted on it; volunteers will be taught to use the basic controls on the compacting unit. The recycle truck is a Ford F-150 with a heightened bed to accommodate more capacity. Neither vehicle requires a CDL to operate. Because there are two vehicles that need to be taken on the route, we will prioritize applications from couples or pairs of friends. Please indicate in your application if you are applying with a companion.
In your application, please include the information requested above and describe why you think you would be a good candidate for this position in response to the " Any other additional qualifications?" question.
