Position Description:

As a Member of the Board of Directors at Aeon for Ocean, you will be instrumental in shaping the strategic direction of the organization. You will oversee organizational policies, financial health, and overall governance, ensuring we fulfill our mission effectively and ethically.

Your Impact on our Mission:

This position is critical to our mission and the key responsibilities you will perform as a part of our Board of Directors include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing governance and oversight for the organization's operations

  • Contributing to the development of the strategic plan and monitor its execution

  • Ensuring the financial stability and accountability of the organization

  • Advocating for the organization's mission and engaging in community outreach efforts

  • Attending and actively participating in mandatory quarterly remote board meetings and relevant committee meetings

What You’ll Bring to the Team:

Along with their passion for our mission, the successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience in a board role or similar capacity

  • Strong commitment to the organization's mission and strategic objectives

  • Experience in governance, finance, fundraising, and/or nonprofit management

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to think critically and engage in constructive dialogue with other board members

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team

  • Background in environmental/watershed/ocean stewardship is preferred

  • Prior experience with a non-profit organization is highly preferred

  • Location within the 48 contiguous United States is highly preferred

Applicants must also have the ability to attend periodic meetings conducted during regular business hours in the Central Standard (CST) Time Zone. We are looking for someone who can dedicate about eight hours a month, attend mandatory quarterly remote Board meetings, and can commit for at least two years (though we’d love to have you even longer)! The quarterly Board meetings are generally advertised well in advance and are usually held on Sunday afternoons or evenings for approximately two (2) hours.

Aeon for Ocean is a U.S.-based nonprofit founded by 7-year-old Aeon in Minnesota, to share knowledge about marine life, the oceans and our role in protecting this planet.

Our focus is on helping inland communities understand why the ocean matters and identify things they can do to protect the ocean. Through our Krill2Whale program and other initiatives, Aeon for Ocean is teaching kids they can save the World Ocean for eons!
