The mission of The "I Have A Dream" Foundation of Boulder is to partner with youth and
their families as they successfully navigate school, college, and career by providing a
holistic academic, social, and emotional program from elementary school through
college, along with postsecondary scholarship assistance .
As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties,
the board is responsible for:
● D etermining the mission of the organization and understanding its collective
purpose
● S electing, supporting, and evaluating the performance of the chief executive
● S trategic and organizational planning
● E nsuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
● F undraising and resource development
● A pproving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services
● E nhancing the organization’s public image
● A ssessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization
● E nsuring legal and ethical integrity
Responsibilities of Individual Board Members
Each individual board member is expected to:
● K now the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs as well as
understand its collective purpose
● F aithfully read and understand the organization’s financial statements and board
materials in advance of meetings
● S erve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization
● F ully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships
necessary for the organization to advance its mission
● L everage connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to
achieve the organization’s mission
● G ive a meaningful personal financial donation ● H elp identify personal connections that can benefit the organization’s fundraising
and reputational standing, and influence public policy
● P repare for, attend, and conscientiously participate in board meetings
● P articipate fully in one or more committees or task forces
● E ngage in learning opportunities to better understand the community we serve
● R espect the experiences of all who bring their voices and lived experiences into
the boardroom and the organization
Other responsibilities of nonprofit board members:
● U phold the legal duties and laws regarding nonprofit governance
● F ollow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
● S ign an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if
necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual
conflicts during meetings
● M aintain confidentiality about all internal matters of the organization

Vision: Our dream is a world where all children have equal access to the educational and career opportunities that will ignite their innate potential.
Description
Since 1990, IHDF Boulder County has served more than 1,000 local youth, and currently has 12 active Dreamer Scholar Classes. The model, with its one-on-one attention and daily programming, has proven to narrow the opportunity gap. Dreamer Scholars graduate from high school, enroll in post-secondary programming, and complete their post-secondary education at much higher rates than their low-income peers.
