Help support a young man with learning disabilities and mobility issues who would love to go swimming once a week ( or more). By taking him to the pool, you will not only be facilitating an enjoyable experience, but you will also help him to get the low-impact exercise that is so important for mitigating the physical symptoms of his condition. You will need to be a good swimmer, have good communication skills, some expereince of working with people that are non-verbal, be patient and reliable. You will collect the person from their home, go with them to the poll and then return them home.

You will be accompanied by a support worker at all times, except when in the water, and will not be asked to help with personal care.

We are looking for a volunteer that lives or works locally in Hackney. We do not offer sponsorships to people coming from outside UK

Description

Outward is a forward-thinking and inclusive charity, working across nine London boroughs to support people to live with dignity and purpose.

We support people with learning disabilities, people on the autism spectrum, older people and young people at risk. Our work is diverse, from supporting people to live independently in their own home and in supported accommodation settings to providing short breaks and supported holidays. However, everything we do is ultimately about enabling people to have greater choice, independence and control over how they live their own lives.
