Job Title: Family Crisis Interventionist Coach - Grandparents Support Program
Location: Remote (on-call availability)
Type: Volunteer (5 Openings)
Reports To: Program Director, The Grandparents Community Network
About Us:
The Grandparents Community Network (TGCN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. We aim to provide guidance, resources, and assistance to help grandparents navigate the unique challenges they face. Our mission is to empower and uplift these caregivers and their families, ensuring their well-being and stability.
We are currently seeking 5 Family Crisis Interventionist Coaches to volunteer and help grandparents manage family crises before they escalate. This role is crucial in providing immediate emotional support and intervention to prevent unsafe or high-risk situations in the home.
Position Overview:
As a Family Crisis Interventionist Coach, you will provide critical support to grandparents dealing with difficult and sometimes dangerous situations in their homes. You will assist grandparents in managing emotional behaviors and family crises, offer guidance, and help de-escalate tense situations before they spiral out of control.
You must be a licensed counselor or behavioral coach with experience in crisis intervention. You will be expected to make immediate reports to The Grandparents Community Network, advise families on seeking professional therapy or reporting incidents when necessary, and be available on-call to provide support during emotional or behavioral crises.
Key Responsibilities:
- Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention to grandparents facing family crises or challenging behavioral situations in the home.
- Behavioral Guidance: Assist in managing emotional and behavioral issues by offering expert advice and de-escalation techniques to prevent the situation from escalating into a high-risk or unsafe scenario.
- Reporting: Immediately report any incidents or concerns to The Grandparents Community Network, following the proper channels.
- Referral to Therapists: Advise parents or guardians to contact a licensed therapist for additional family counseling and support.
- On-Call Availability: Be available on-call to assist grandparents with urgent emotional or behavioral concerns and provide real-time coaching via phone or virtual meetings.
- Ongoing Support: Follow up as needed to ensure that grandparents are receiving the proper resources and support and that safety protocols are being followed.
Qualifications:
- Licensed counselor, licensed behavioral coach, or professional with experience in crisis intervention, behavioral management, or family therapy.
- Experience working with families and children, especially in high-stress or crisis situations.
- Knowledge and understanding of the unique challenges grandparents face when raising their grandchildren.
- Strong communication and listening skills, with the ability to offer calm and effective advice in high-pressure situations.
- Ability to assess risk and make immediate decisions to protect all individuals in the household.
- Familiarity with community resources, including therapists, counselors, and child welfare services.
- Availability to be on-call during designated hours and respond quickly to crises.

The Grandparents Community Network’s current goal is to provide basic needs, special needs, transitional emergencies and non-traditional circumstances that are not met by community resources or state and federal dollars. We also aspire to provide scholarships for education. We mobilize the collective action of the community sectors to address existing issues, create vital resources, advocate for policies on the local, state and federal level that address the unique needs of grandparents and their families.
Description
We have assisted grandparents in various states with utility assistance, prescriptions, clothing, back to school supplies, car payment assistance and repairs, gasoline, emotional support, crisis intervention and other various nontraditional needs. We currently receive funding from the Founder’s fundraising efforts and personal contributions. Our staff are current volunteers. Our organizational structural consists of 5 board members including the Founder who governs the day-to-day operations and, 1 administrative assistant two volunteer support roles. Our programs consist of mentoring, grandparents' assistance, grief coaching, administrative, radio broadcasting, website design, arts and culture, event planning, workshops and training,
