Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: USDA Forest Service

This seasonal volunteer will serve as a campground host in the country’s deepest canyon at Pittsburg Campground in Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Hosts are welcoming, outdoor oriented, self-reliant individuals who are eager to share their knowledge and passion of the river corridor as well as help with the upkeep of the campground and check river permits during primary season.

Pittsburg Campground overlooks the Wild and Scenic Snake River and is located on a terrace above the Pittsburg Landing Boat Launch in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. This facility has 28 tent/trailer sites with shade shelters and picnic benches that may accommodate large RVs and trailers with accessible parking, vault toilets, and paved roads. With access to the Snake River for fishing, boating, historic interpretation, and exploring and hiking, the facility is popular throughout the year. Hosts will perform campground/facilities maintenance, clean and restock restrooms, pick up litter, engage with visitors, and assist with checking river permits.

There is a volunteer host site in the campground as well as a rustic 2-bedroom cabin with running hot water, toilet, shower, kitchen propane stove. There is no electricity. A UTV will also be available for transportation around the campground and landing.
