The Bridger-Teton National Forest is seeking a dedicated volunteer or volunteers to assist with managing the very-popular Snake River corridor. The Upper Snake River is known worldwide for its crystal clear waters, unique geology, numerous recreation adventures, and amazing varieties of wildlife. The ability to experience wild water, world-class fishing, great hiking, and memorable camping are just a few of the reasons to visit the Snake River Canyon. Each summer from the June to August, the portion of the Snake River between South Park Bridge and Sheep Gulch hosts over 150,000 visitors. Required skills would include general river knowledge relating to whitewater rafting and boating, and experience working with people under challenging and emotionally charged situations.
Job duties will include:
- Provide the public with general information about the BTNF, daily river conditions, and rules and regulations as applicable.
- Occasionally improving signage and communicating area-specific needs and issues to a Forest Service supervisor.
- Demonstrate a courteous, customer service attuite with visitors and colleagues.
- Occasionally cleaning restrooms.
- Ensure people are abiding by the rules and providing education when they are not.
- Rafting the river to provide information to the public and to ensure the safety of river users
We are interested in volunteers who are local to Jackson, but may have housing options available for non-local volunteer applicants.
