Passionate about supporting homeless youth as they meet their future off the streets?
Teen Feed works with the community to offer support to meet basic needs, build strong relationships, and ally with homeless youth as they meet their future off the streets. With the tremendous support of the community, Teen Feed responds to the most basic needs of homeless youth with three programs: Teen Feed Nightly Meal Program, Street Talk Outreach Program (STOP), and Service Links for Youth (SLY).
What is the board’s role at Teen Feed?
The Board of Directors exists to secure and promote the financial, legal, and ethical well-being of the organization and to ensure that it fulfills its mission. Board members are expected to participate in a monthly board meeting, serve on board committees, and/or hold an officer position as needed. All board members must actively contribute to our Culture of Philanthropy by making a personal financial contribution that aligns with their means and by engaging in resource development efforts for Teen Feed.
Who would be our ideal Board candidate?
We are seeking a Board of Directors that reflects the diversity of the community we serve, with particular emphasis on experienced members and individuals passionate about supporting youth. We are especially interested in candidates with strong business acumen and expertise in one or more of the following areas: legal (risk management), HR/policy, and fundraising with major donor experience. Additionally, we value candidates with experience from roles in secondary food/food justice systems, Educational Programs (social work or business school), DEI, and those with lived experience.

History
In 1987, nurses from the University of Washington Medical Center noticed that many street youth accessing the emergency room were severely malnourished. The community responded, and faith groups, service providers, and neighbors came together to provide food to the University District’s homeless youth population. Teen Feed was born, serving youth with healthy lives, nutritious meals. Teen Feed is the only provider of meals specifically to youth and young adults in the University District open regularly every night of the week for food and support since 1984.
