Mission Statement

Washtenaw Literacy partners with adult learners to develop their skills and pursue their goals by providing free literacy support through a network of trained volunteer tutors.

Description

Washtenaw Literacy is a non-profit organization that was established in 1971 by a group of community volunteers who aimed to empower adults through literacy education. We provide adult literacy services to the Washtenaw County community by offering in-person and virtual one-on-one tutoring, small group classes, and specialized programs to support adult learners to improve their reading, writing, math, and English as a second language skills. We also provide services such as GED preparation and job readiness training to guide learners to reach their educational and career goals. The organization is staffed by trained volunteer tutors and professional staff. They work with community partners to identify and serve the most in-need populations in the area.
