Read with elementary students online! Kids who are not proficient in reading by 4th grade are 4x less likely to graduate high school than their proficient peers. Our virtual reading program helps students who are struggling with reading by providing positive, engaging, one-on-one tutoring sessions to improve their reading skills and help them develop a love of reading.

Volunteers use digital books and materials shared through Zoom to guide students' independent reading and read aloud to them. Volunteers are trained in best methods to support phonics skills, vocabulary, and comprehension based on needs determined by students' pre-assessments.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for the 8 week summer 2025 session beginning in June 2025.

Mission Statement

KALP, with WELCOME’s sponsorship and fiscal support, is dedicated to reducing functional illiteracy in the greater Kingman area. Services are provided by volunteer tutors at no cost to students in order to improve quality of life, enhance employability and ultimately reduce poverty.

Description

The Kingman Area Literacy Program (KALP) is 100% volunteer run and provides 100% free tutoring in:

  • adult basic literacy.
  • GED test prep.
  • English language learning.
  • reading and schoolwork for school-aged children.
