Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site preserves the mansion and estate once owned by Frederick and Louise Vanderbilt. The estate, named "Hyde Park", was one of many along the Hudson River where ultra-wealthy New Yorkers retreated to enjoy outdoor pursuits during the Gilded Age. Once an exclusive playground for the ultra-wealthy, the estate is now open to all. The property includes a 54-room mansion, formal gardens, and carriage trails that have been converted to hiking paths.
