ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site preserves the birthplace, lifelong home, and final resting place of the nation’s 32 nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt retreated to this estate during times of crisis and brought world leaders here to discuss some of the most pivotal events of the 20 th century. Today, the site encompasses "Springwood," the Roosevelt family’s home, gardens, and hiking trails. Nearby is the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library, managed by the National Archives and Records Administration.

The National Parks of Hyde Park, NY seek friendly Volunteer Tour Guides to give tours of Springwood. Volunteer Tour Guides work alongside Park Rangers to perform the following duties:

  • Assist Ranger-led tours, as necessary
  • Answer visitor inquiries about site history and the local area
  • Ensure resource preservation and safety by following proper NPS procedures and giving safety messages to visitors

Volunteer Tour Guides usually serve one, four-hour shift per week. A volunteer’s shift will be assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator, based on the park’s needs and with input from the volunteer.

  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • Flexibility
  • Interest in 20 th century history
