The Court Accompaniment Volunteer provides vital emotional support and guidance to survivors of domestic violence during court proceedings. By attending hearings with survivors, you'll offer a reassuring presence and help them navigate the often-intimidating courthouse. Your support will empower survivors and provide comfort throughout a challenging process they would otherwise face alone. This is a meaningful opportunity to directly impact the lives of survivors and contribute to their emotional well-being as they seek safety and justice.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Attend court hearings alongside victims/survivors of domestic violence.
* Provide general legal information and emotional support to survivors before and after their hearing.
* Assist survivors in navigating the courthouse and locating the departments they need to access.
* Offer reassurance and guidance to survivors throughout the court process.
Approximate Number of Hours: Hours vary depending on need. Court calendars and volunteer assignments are broken up into morning (8:30am-12:00pm) and afternoon (1:30pm-5:00pm). We prioritize accompaniment for restraining order hearings, which are heard in the morning Tuesday - Friday and in the afternoon on Tuesday or Thursday.
