Description: The Education Department is recruiting fun, intelligent and committed volunteers to tutor our Club members (learners), ages 6-18 (grades K-12). Tutoring is an on-going need and we are always looking to expand our volunteer base. The primary role of volunteer tutors is assisting with homework and building foundation skills in various subject areas through enrichment activities (i.e. quiz, trivia, flash cards, worksheets, interactive games). All volunteer tutors will be trained and given a Tutor Manual to follow.
Commitment: 2 days per week, 1-2 hours per day, 5-month commitment
Responsibilities:
- Meet regularly and punctually
- Prepare each session to meet individual needs of the learner (with the resources provided to you)
- Utilize and follow the Tutor Manual
- Provide encouragement and support to Club members by
- listening to what he/she has to say
- helping develop a positive attitude toward learning
- being supportive rather than critical of mistakes
- encourage critical thinking and questions in learners
- Inspire reading beyond the tutoring sessions
- Identify learner’s special interest areas and integrate related materials
- Inform Education Director of problems encountered in tutoring sessions
- Inform Education Director of special material and/or training needs that arise
- Documentation:
- Keep accurate & detailed records of each tutor sessions in Tutor Log
- Turn in learner assessment and progress reports as required
Qualifications:
- Dependable and prompt (ability to make a consistent, weekly commitment)
- Experience working with children
- Respectful of different learning needs
- Flexible, friendly, patient and encouraging - sense of humor always helpful!
- 80+ grade average major plus.
- Must be 16 years old or older.

Description
Kips Bay addresses many critical needs of children, adolescents and young adults. These needs include: a safe place where they can "belong", a place to play and grow socially with peers, adult mentoring, a place to challenge oneself physically and intellectually and be recognized for accomplishments, and opportunities to give back to others. The club is available six days a week year round.
