As you read this we are collecting a list of emails from our guests here at the Nutrition Center who are excited to read our first Nutrition News Letter in January of 2024! We have nearly doubled the number of guests we are serving here compared to our pre-covid numbers and there is not enough time to speak to every individual guest about how important nutrition is. To help ensure that our guests are being provided with essential information that can help them we decided to develop a monthly newsletter. In this news letter it will contain a recipe containing items found at the pantry, tips on cooking and healthy eating, public resources such as how to apply for SNAP, Nutrition Center events/updates, and other relevant information! This newsletter should not only be informative but engaging for our guests. My ideal volunteer would be someone who is creative, has excellent Word or Google Doc skills, is used to working independently, has great time management skills, and is a strong writer! The newsletter will be sent out in both English and Spanish so being bilingual would be a huge help to you and our guests! We also require all of our volunteers to pass a CORI. Being a remote volunteer you would be working independently and touching base and coordinating with Erin Quaiel, the Nutrition Center Coordinator. Time Commitment: 4 hours per week. This volunteer opportunity is flexible. You may work on your project whenever and where ever you would like to as long as you have it sent to us by the set deadline. We can agree on a deadline during our initial conversation!
Requested length of service: I would like to keep this newsletter running for as long as we can! We would be happy to have you as long as you are willing to help us!

Mission Statement

HUNGER FREE AMERICA is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grassroots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.

Description

HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.

Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
