Overview:
Are you passionate about helping animals and making a difference in their daily lives? Join our team as a Volunteer Kennel Staff Member! This essential role supports the well-being of our guide dogs in training by ensuring their environment is clean, comfortable, and enriching. While this position does not require direct handling of the dogs, there will be opportunities to do so for those who are interested and trained.
Responsibilities:- Clean and sanitize kennels to maintain a safe and hygienic space for the animals
- Assist with food preparation and distribution
- Wash, dry, and fold laundry, including bedding and towels
- Fill and clean Kongs and other enrichment toys to support mental stimulation
- Keep kennel areas organized and stocked with necessary supplies
- Assist with general cleaning and maintenance of the facility
- Follow Fidelco protocols to ensure the health and safety of all animals and staff
- Must be at least 18
- Comfortable working in a kennel environment with noise and odors
- Able to lift up to 25lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods
- Reliable, responsible, and able to follow directions from staff
- Passionate about animal care and willing to contribute to a team-oriented environment
- Gain hands-on experience in a kennel setting

Journey from Pup to Fidelco Guide Dog Partner
At Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, our Guide Dog Program exemplifies compassionate care for both the clients we serve and the Guide Dogs we raise and train.
When German Shepherd puppies are born on the Fidelco campus, they are cared for by a loving Animal Husbandry staff who teaches early reward-based training.
At eight weeks of age, these future Fidelco Guide Dogs are brought home by a volunteer puppy raiser family who will care for and teach the young pup basic skills that it will need throughout its life.
Approximately one year later, the volunteer puppy raiser family returns the puppy to Fidelco, where it formally enters our Guide Dog Training Program.
For the next eight months, the dog works with a professional trainer/instructor on formal guide skills that will enable the dog to safely Share the Vision with a blind partner.
Once the perfect client-dog match is made by our expert placement staff, a fully-trained Fidelco Guide Dog is partnered with a man or woman who is blind.
This incredible partnership will continue for ten years or more. And, when a Fidelco Guide Dog's working career is done, Fidelco ensures a loving home for all of our retired Guide Dogs.
