This position is for a front desk volunteer at the Cape Lookout National Seashore Visitor Center, located on Harkers Island, North Carolina. Duties for this position include providing information to visitors, answering the telephone, and performing opening and closing duties at the center. The daily work schedule is 8 hours, from 8:45-5:15 with a 30-minute lunch break. Volunteering over the winter season at Cape Lookout National Seashore is often quiet, with minimal visitation from December 1st-March 1st. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license. On-site orientation, training, and a uniform will be provided and required to wear while on-duty.

To qualify for an RV Pad housing area, volunteers must commit to 4 days/week of visitor center coverage. Volunteer couples may split this coverage from day-to-day, but a total of four days of coverage per week is required.

The Volunteer RV area is in a communal area which is only accessible to staff and other volunteers. The location is directly adjacent to a waterfront area and on the edge of our walking trail.

Harkers Island has multiple smaller grocery and convenience stores within 10 minutes. Other larger stores, medical services, etc. are available in either Beaufort or Morehead City (roughly 30-40 minutes away).
