***Cancelled due to high winds expected today. Due to the high likelihood of falling limbs at this site, we have decided to cancel out of an abundance of caution. We will reschedule for a future date and we apologize for any inconvenience!
Join Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group on the King County Parks-owned Middle Bear Creek Natural Area to restore Chinook salmon habitat!
Bear Creek and Monticello Creek flow through this patch of riparian forest, and Mid Sound is helping to complete maintenance in the understory. Overtime, invasive species including Himalayan Blackberry have encroahed into the forest and are competing with native species. Mid Sound and King County Parks have partnered to remove these weeds, and now we need your helping filling in the gaps with new plants!
We will spend our day planting 'bareroot' native trees and shrubs to supplement the existing understory and create a healthy, resilient riparian habitat for our salmon.
When you regiter you will receive a confirmation email from VolunteerMatch. On the Wednesday before the event (3/12/2025) you will recive an email from Mid Sound with details on parking, site access, schedule, and saftey infomation.
***If you are under 18 and attending without a parent/ guardian and this is your first Mid Sound event you've volunteered at, please print and fill out the King County Parks Youth Waiver Form attached to the confirmation email and bring it with you to the event!***

Mission Statement
Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group works to involve local people in projects that will ensure a future for wild salmon.
Description
Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group is dedicated to helping landowners and communities protect their local fish. We practice fisheries and stream restoration in the King and Kitsap Counties in Washington State. Our service area includes the Green/Duwamish River watershed, the Lake Washington/Cedar River watershed, isolated streams flowing into Puget Sound in King County, and all watersheds in eastern Kitsap County. We use habitat restoration projects - such as streamside fencing, native tree planting, and fish passage improvements - as catalysts to building community partnerships. As one of 14 Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups in Washington State, we are part of a coordinated effort to restore fish habitat in the state.
