Bright Lights For Africa is a Canadian registered charity and non-governmental organization, whose vision is to empower marginalized and vulnerable individuals through acts of love, compassion, and generosity, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender. Job Description: The Community Engagement Coordinator is an exceptional volunteer opportunity within Bright Lights for Africa (BLFA), offering a unique chance to be a part of our newest programs, Support for francophones of African descent (Soutien aux Afrodescendants Francophones). By joining BLFA in this role, you will play a crucial part in expanding our outreach efforts, enhancing our impact on food insecurity and community well-being. This volunteer position is designed for individuals with a passion for community development and international development, providing an enriching experience that contributes to meaningful change.

An Enriching International Development Experience

● Gain insights into the world of international development by contributing to an organization that addresses food insecurity and community well-being on both local and global scales.

● Apply your passion for community development and international outreach to a real-world context, making a meaningful impact in vulnerable communities.

Key Responsibilities:

● Assist in the development and execution of community engagement strategies to raise awareness of BLFA's mission and programs.

● Collaborate with the Director to identify potential community partners, stakeholders, and supporters, thereby expanding BLFA's network and impact.

● Participate in the organization, promotion, and execution of community events, workshops, and campaigns to foster engagement and participation.

● Contribute to developing content for promotional materials, social media posts, and newsletters to increase awareness of BLFA's initiatives.

● Assist in maintaining accurate records of community engagement efforts, event attendance, and participant feedback.

● Provide assistance to the Director in various tasks, including research, data collection, and administrative duties related to community engagement.

Required Qualifications:

● Proficiency in French and English (both written and spoken).

● Passion for BLFA's mission and commitment to addressing food insecurity and community well-being.

● Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

● Effective communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders and promoting grant opportunities.

● Enthusiasm for community engagement, event coordination, and grant research.

● Proficiency in using research tools and online resources to identify potential grants.

● Proven experience in community outreach, engagement, or a similar role.

● Strong understanding of the Black Francophone community’s cultural and social dynamics.

● Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

● Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse groups.

Preferred Qualifications: · Previous experience in grant research, community engagement, or research is a plus · Experience in program development, coordination, and implementation.

· Knowledge of local resources, services, and community networks in Calgary.

· Experience in advocacy and working with marginalized communities.
