We’re looking for a rare breed.
The kind of person who craves raw adventure, who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty, who looks at an island in Alaska and says, "Yeah, I’m in."
This is a call for the builders, the wanderers, the in-betweeners.
For the college student hungry for experience, the gap-year traveler, the nomad looking to reset, the hippie learning how to use a hammer, the leader-in-the-making who wants to learn who they are.
For one month, you’ll live and work off-grid on an island in Alaska, helping build something that outlasts you: a wilderness sanctuary where men and boys come to find purpose, push their limits, and step into something greater.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Build & Develop: Trail work, carpentry, land maintenance, sustainable projects
Grow & Steward: Permaculture, gardening, off-grid infrastructure
Live & Lead: Learn land stewardship, backwoods skills, leadership in action
Adventure & Reset: Hike, fish, kayak, and experience untouched Alaskan wilderness
A DAY IN THE LIFE:
Morning: Wake up to crisp mountain air, drink coffee by the water, eat breakfast by the firs, then get your gloves on to tackle the day’s project-maybe you’re clearing trails, cutting trees, planting gardens, or building structures.
Afternoon: Siesta in a hammock. Yoga on the dock. Journaling amongst the birds. Finish day’s projects and wrap the day with a dip in the chilly waters or a kayak paddle at sunset.
Evening: Fly-fishing for our dinner. Friendship by the fire. Stories, music, deep talks, or just quiet, staring up at the Northern Lights.
WHY THIS? WHY YOU?
The world doesn’t match your frequency, and you want to give back to something meaningful before you make your next big move in life.
You’re seeking a competent and caring community that will challenge you and hold you at the same time.
Living and working on the land means being part of a tight-knit, intentional group. This is about collaboration, respect, and shared purpose.
You’ll be working shoulder to shoulder with people from different backgrounds, different strengths, and different stories. The key? Celebrating those differences.
COMMUNITY STANDARDS
We operate on agreements, not assumptions. Everyone has a role. Everyone contributes.
Respect the work. Respect each other. Whether you’re leading the charge or learning as you go, we create space for growth.
Embrace the challenge. Embrace the camaraderie. Hard work bonds people. Meals, music, and moments around the fire make it even better.
If you’re looking for complete isolation, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for deep connection, honest work, and an experience that will push and change you-this is exactly it.
NOTES: We are on a private island in Alaska - 45 minutes outside of Fairbanks. We make weekly runs into town for food, supplies, and laundry.
Food & Housing are covered - comfortable tents along the river’s edge (includes bags, and pads). Every lodging is on a platform (some are treehouses!)
This is only a volunteer-based opportunity

Mission Statement
We are driven by a singular mission: to empower and equip under- fathered and mentor-less teens throughout the U.S., providing them with caring male mentors, and the tools they need to navigate life's challenges while helping them build a foundation for healthy masculine embodiment
Description
MAP was born from a deep recognition of the crisis facing young men today-a rise in suicide, anxiety, and depression (S.A.D.), a lack of mentorship, and a growing disconnect from nature and meaningful rites of passage. Our founder, Chris Sawey, experienced firsthand the struggles of growing up without strong masculine guidance. His journey led to the creation of MAP, a movement designed to restore brotherhood, resilience, and authentic leadership in men.
Our Impact
- Hundreds of lives transformed through MAP’s wilderness experiences and mentorship programs.
- A growing network of committed mentors and leaders trained to guide the next generation.
- Expanding from Alaska to Austin, with plans for new hubs in the future.
- A proven track record of helping men find purpose, confidence, and brotherhood.
