It takes an extra special volunteer to sit with someone and just be a peaceful, calming presence in their last hours of life. As a part of our Caretenders Caring Angels Volunteer Team, it is all about helping more people by honoring life and death with dignity and love by providing a caring and compassionate bedside companion for dying patients who may normally be alone at the end of life. While no one knows the exact moment when death will come, it is the goal of our particular volunteer program to bring a patient and their family the reassurance that they are not alone in their final hours. Your presence is the key. You will not be expected to provide personal care, medications, stimulating conversation and the like to the patient. This is about being in the moment with the patient and letting things take their natural course.

A minimum of 6 months of actively seeing patients as a hospice volunteer is required for this, along with an ability to commit to an on-call schedule chosen by you, the volunteer, for a minimum of 4 hours per shift. Training will be provided, along with background checks, drug testing, and TB testing.
