Volunteer with Astegos.org to help us with a FREE event at Barber Park on Saturday September 13th - Toys for Tots Unplug & Play! This event is completely FREE for families to attend with free bounce houses, free food & drink and a free toy giveaway in partnership with Toys for Tots!
To make the event possible, we need volunteers to help with set up and clean up, registration, toy distribution, food and drink service and photographers to capture the event. We have split the day into 2 hour shifts, starting at 8:30am, but you are welcome to sign up for more than one shift if you would like to volunteer for longer.
"Event Set Up" involves unloading the truck, putting up tables, chairs and signage, unboxing toys to display on the tables ready to give away
"Registration Desk" will involve helping families who attend to register to receive FREE toys by completing a short online form and managing the flow of people to make sure each family only receives free toys once. The child must be present to receive toys (the parents or grandparents cannot take toys for a child who is not with them). We would also love anyone who speaks both Spanish & English to volunteer for this role as this would be advantageous.
"Toy Distribution" involves crowd control, registering families for the free toys (we have an online form we ask all parents to complete before getting the toys), handing out free toys, unboxing toys ready to be given out, breaking down empty cardboard boxes ready for recycling
"Food Service Assistant" involves helping our Food Truck
"Event Clean Up" involves breaking down empty cardboard boxes for recycling, litter pick of the area, packing up tables and loading the truck
"Photographer" involves asking permission to take photos of the children receiving the toys, families enjoying the event and volunteers working at the event. Please note, you will need to bring your own camera, be confident approaching the public and be willing to share your photos with us after the event.
There is no minimum age to volunteer but volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or appropriate adult to supervise.
