Assist the Director of Development with special events; greeting and thanking donors and volunteers; sorting donations, and entering data. Hours are somewhat flexible but operates out of our main office in Williamsburg. Victim advocacy training and training related to the work is provided.

Mission Statement
Avalon is committed to intervening in and reducing the incidence of domestic violence and sexual assault. Our mission will be achieved through shelter, advocacy, and support to victims and survivors, using community education to foster awareness and prevention.
Description
Shelter, Occupancy of up to 19 persons, including women and their children (son no older than eleven)
24-hour Helpline @ 757-258-5051: Emotional Support, resources, advocacy and information offered to victims and survivors of domestic and sexual assault.
Support Groups: Groups offered and continued based on community interest
Court and Hospital Accompaniment: Avalon provides accompaniment for clients receiving assistance from the court, social service agencies and local hospitals. We also offer on-site crisis intervention, support and resources to women hospitalized as a result of a physical or sexual assault. Avalon has a full-time legal advocate who works in conjunction with local law enforcement officials and judicial system.
Education Outreach Offers educational presentqations, working to inform the community about domestic violence and sexual violence.
School Based Programs: Counselors service various middle and high schools in the area providing group and individual counseling on the subjects of healthy relationships, conflict resolution, domestic an sexual violence and sexual harassment.
Resource Library: A resource library of books, manuals, and journals on a variety of topics is available to clients.
Cellular hone Program: donated cellular phones are made available to our clients and redidents to increase the safety of the women and children we serve. Phones are programmed to dial 911 and the Avalon Helpline.
