A "Human Resources Specialist Supervisor - Employee Relation & Labor Relations" is a mid-level HR professional who oversees a team of specialists focused on managing employee relations and labor issues within an organization, including investigating complaints, mediating disputes, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and negotiating with unions when applicable, all while providing guidance to managers on best practices to maintain positive employee relationships.

Key responsibilities may include:Employee Relations Management:
  • Investigating employee complaints, grievances, and concerns related to harassment, discrimination, performance issues, and workplace conflicts.
  • Facilitating conflict resolution between employees and managers.
  • Providing advice and coaching to managers on addressing employee issues.
  • Monitoring employee engagement and morale

Labor Relations Management (in unionized environments):

  • Negotiating collective bargaining agreements with unions
  • Handling grievance procedures and representing the company in arbitration hearings
  • Interpreting and ensuring compliance with labor laws and union contracts

Policy Development and Training:

  • Developing and implementing employee relations policies and procedures
  • Providing training to managers and employees on company policies, labor laws, and conflict resolution techniques

Compliance:

  • Staying updated on labor laws and regulations to ensure compliance
  • Advising management on potential legal risks related to employee relations issues
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of labor laws and employment regulations
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively mediate disputes
  • Proven experience in conducting thorough investigations and documenting findings
  • Negotiation skills for collective bargaining agreements
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and make sound decisions
  • Legal knowledge and awareness of employment litigation
