A Choice Market Advisor would oversee the flow of the entire distribution shift, and work directly with the Manager on Duty to best support our organization. This volunteer would also help identify volunteer skills in order to support the assignment of volunteer roles, organize food restocking, check in guests for their appointments, and oversee hospitality in the market! A passion for hospitality is important for this role! Volunteers arrive an hour before distribution begins, in order to begin team formation, restock shelves, and assign volunteer roles. Distribution shifts are fast-paced/customer service oriented and require adaptability. Volunteer roles vary from checking in guests into our computer, greeting guests, restocking fresh produce, packing online orders, bagging groceries, and more. Guests from our community shop according to family size, selecting from fresh produce, meat, dairy, grab n' go items, dry goods, and bakery/pastries. We are currently serving around 550 families and distributing over 19,000 lbs of food each week. The ideal volunteer would be passionate about connecting with fellow volunteers and guests alike. Someone who enjoys creating an environment of hospitality- making coffee for guests and creating a supportive environment. Time Commitment: 8 hours per week. Feast of Justice Distribution Hours: Tu 9-12, Wed 10-12, 4-7, Th 10-12, Sat 10-12/1-4. Partial shifts are possible upon discussion. Volunteer shifts in the market are typically around 4 hours long.
Requested length of service: We suggest that volunteers serve 1-3 shifts per week, depending on their availability and interests. This volunteer would be welcome to oversee any of our distributions of food to the public.

HUNGER FREE AMERICA is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grassroots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Description
HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
