ORGANIZATION: COMPETITIVE PROGRAMMING INITIATIVE

As a Content Author, you’ll help write content (modules, problem solutions, etc) for the USACO Guide. You will also have the ability to submit Code Reviews for incoming Pull Requests. Pull Requests you make will have a streamlined approval process.

Note: You do not have to be a content author to contribute to the USACO Guide! You can continue submitting Pull Requests without being an official team member. Please ping/DM SansPapyrus683, notcryan, or eys on Discord (https://discord.gg/VCxUzdYhzN) once you have applied.

Guidelines:

  • Expect to put in at least 1-2 hours a week.

  • Submit (on average) at least 1-2 substantial Pull Requests a week.

    • Examples of "substantial" changes:

      • Changes to existing pages that are more than just a typo fix

      • Internal problem solution pages (Must include brief editorials. Code with neither explanations nor comments does not count.)

      • Tagging problems, adding (video) resources, adding incomplete sections, adding quizzes.

    • This is a rough guideline and won’t be strictly enforced, so don’t worry if you don’t meet this from time to time.

    • Submitting Code Reviews for Pull Requests count too; however, make sure your review is thorough.

  • Submit a Weekly Progress Report Google Form detailing your activities for the week.

    • Super brief form -- just link to any PR’s you’ve made/reviewed and estimate how many hours you spent.

    • You may earn volunteer hours for the time you spend writing content. We will review PR’s to make sure that reported hours are reasonable :)

  • If you’re unable to meet the time commitment from time to time (due to school tests, vacation, USACO contests, etc), that’s fine -- just make sure to let us know.

    • Please "self-retire" when you know you won’t be able to actively contribute anymore in order to preserve the health of the community. You can always change your mind and rejoin later.

  • In the application Google Form, link to two Pull Requests you have made to the USACO Guide (must be "substantial" as described above), and should not have needed major changes from our team members. These Pull Requests will serve as your application.

  • There are NO division requirements. We do not consider your current division or skill level as part of the application process; we only look at the quality of the Pull Requests you submit.
